Enrico De Carlo - Donnie Donuts

Donnie Donuts è un personaggio nato per gioco pensando alla catena americana Dunkin’ Donuts. Inizialmente doveva essere destinato ad un semplice esercizio di Character Design. In seguito però ha preso vita propria, staccandosi dal concept iniziale e diventando decisamente il personaggio che disegno di più. Donnie ha delle caratteristiche che lo rendono particolarmente versatile come i colori brillanti, quella specie di ciuffo nella parte posteriore della testa e soprattutto le palline di zucchero colorato che decorano la sua testa. Nel corso dei suoi pochi anni di vita l’ho interpretato in diverse chiavi e non passa giorno in cui non lo disegno da qualche parte. Il nome è naturalmente una storpiatura di Dunkin’ Donuts, con un gusto un po’ da gangster cinematografico che lo rende un po’ indisciplinato e pasticcione.

In queste tavole ho evidenziato l’origine dell’idea e dato ampio spazio ai bozzetti che sono la vera dimensione di questo personaggio, considerata la frequenza con la quale viene abbozzato ogni giorno.

Donnie Donuts is a character created for fun thinking about the American chain Dunkin 'Donuts. Initially it was just a simple exercise of Character Design. Later, however, he took its own life, moving away from the initial concept and becoming much more the character I draw more frequently. Donnie has unique properties that make it particularly versatile, like the brilliant colors, that sort of tuft in the back of the head and especially the balls of colored sugar decorating his head. During his few years of life I have drawed it in different ways and not a day goes by without me sketching it somewhere. The name is obviously a distortion of Dunkin 'Donuts, with a bit' of gangster movie climate that makes it a bit 'unruly and messy.
In these tables I have highlighted the origin of the idea and gave wide space to the sketches that are the true dimension of this character, given the frequency it is sketched every day.
